What is Hair Transplant Surgery?
Also known as Hair Restoration, modern transplant techniques began in Japan in the 1930s, and has been more popular around the world since the late 1950s. From then until now, Hair Transplantation techniques has developed immensely and now a very common procedure - over 650,000 transplants were performed in 2019 across the globe.
The procedure involves removing hair follicles from the donor site of the scalp, and transplanting individual follicles to areas of balding of the scalp, known as the recipient site. The technique is primarily used to treat male pattern baldness, but can be used for female hair loss patterns too. In this minimally invasive procedure, grafts containing hair follicles that are genetically resistant to balding (like the back of the head) are transplanted to the balding areas of the scalp.
Hair Transplant Techniques
The two commonly used hair transplant techniques are Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) and Direct Hair Implantation (DHI).
FUE involves removing individual follicles from the donor area using a circular cutting punch incision around the follicle, creating slits / holes in the recipient area, and inserting the donor follicles into each slit one by one.
DHI involves the exact same technique for removing the follicles from the donor area, however, the transplantation method into the recipient area is much more advanced with the DHI technique. With the use of a Choi Pen (simply a needled pen), hair follicles are injected into the recipient area one by one without the need to make a slit / hole beforehand.

Hair Transplant Surgery FAQs
Does it hurt?
Some discomfort can be expected when the local anaesthetic is applied to the donor and recipient areas. Using our unique methods, we are able to make this experience as pleasant as possible. Once the local anaesthetic is applied, you should feel no pain during the procedure.
Is this technique suitable for Women?
Yes. Our invisible transplant technique is most suitable for women as there is no need to shave the recipient area if the scalp. A small, discreet area in the back of the head is used as the donor area - this is shaved but can be easily hidden with the rest of the hair in the area.
When can I return to normal activity?
Redness and swelling will disappear after 3 - 14 days. Light exercise can take place 4 weeks after, and heavy exercise 8 weeks after procedure.
Can I wear a hat after the surgery?
No. It is important NOT to wear any headgear / hats for 2 weeks post-surgery.
Can I wash my hair as normal after the transplant?
The first 2 weeks, you must be very gentle with the newly transplanted hair - we will demonstrate how to wash your air during this time. No hair dryer, caps/hats or hair products to be used within the first 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, you can wash and style your hair as normal.
