What is Micro-needling?

Microneedling uses small needles to cause tiny punctures in the skin. These small contact points encourage the body to create a wound healing response and renew the skin cells. As the skin repairs, the production of collagen and elastin is triggered to give an almost immediate plumping effect. It can also help tackle other skin problems such as scarring, dark spots, sun damage and ageing. The best results from Microneedling are seen after a course of treatments.

At The PRP Lab, we use the micro-needling pen device, and not manual dermal rollers. This device can be set to different depths, depending on your individual case and the results you wish to achieve. Minimal needle depths will be painless, while deeper acne scarring, perhaps caused by long periods of adult acne may require an anesthetic cream, ensuring a pain free experience.

For an additional boost to the rejuvenation, we also apply a variety of cocktails to the skin in combination with a micro-needling treatment. One of our favourite is micro-needling treatment with PRP – your skin is left rejuvenated, plumped and glowing.

Micro-needling FAQ’s

Does it hurt?
This depends on the area treated and the depth chosen. The deeper the penetration using a Micro-needling device, the more likelihood of pain. We always have topical anaesthetic cream available to use to make the experience pleasant for you.

When will I see results?
Results are usually visible 7-10 days after treatment, but individual results may vary. We recommend a course of treatments for optimal, long lasting results.

What is the aftercare?
You will be advised to not return to your daily skincare regime straight away. Micro-needling creates micro wounds in the skin and we don’t want to congest them with any harsh products. Mild redness will be seen in the skin for up to 24 hours which is normal. We advise no exercise, sauna, steam rooms during this period and sun protection (High SPF) MUST be used every day after micro-needling. During the consultation, your practitioner will talk you through aftercare before any treatment begins.
