What is Regenera Activa and Micrograft Treatment?

Regenera Activa is a rejuvenation and tissue renewal treatment that uses a unique combination of stem cell precursors, growth factors and progenitor cells. These cells are obtained in a minimally invasive manner from the patient’s own body and re-introduced into the area to be treated. Various fields of medicine use this procedure, such as aesthetic dermatology, trichology, plastic surgery, orthopaedics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, etc.

The process is minimally invasive and involves 3 steps

1) Harvesting graft tissue (around 2.5ml) using a small biopsy tool, usually from the nape of the neck

2) Treating the harvested samples to a filtration process which extract the most concentrated growth factors, stem cell precursors and progenitor cells

3) Injecting the cells to the area to be treated.

Regenera Activa is a safe and effective technique to treat alopecia and skin rejuvenation. When used for the scalp, this treatment aims to halt the process of alopecia and revitalise the existing hair follicles into generating new hair, using the healing power of an individual’s own cells. These are called progenitor cells – which can be pushed to differentiate into their “target” cells. This characteristic makes it possible for them to turn into active follicular cells. Essentially, Regenera Activa is a micrografting technique that uses a specialised patented tool to deliver progenitor cells into target areas so they may proceed to repair tissue compromised by alopecia.

Progenitor cells, stem cell precursors and growth factors that have regenerative abilities are isolated from the sampled tissue and introduced to the target areas of the scalp, initiating the repair process – blood vessel formation in skin and regeneration of hair follicles.

At The PRP Lab, we believe in combination treatments and occasionally mix PRP with the Regenara Activa - this is an even more concentrated combination of micrograft and growth factors, injected into the scalp or face in order to initiate the regenerative processes.

Regenera Activa at a glance

What areas can be treated with Regenera Activa?

SCALP

Regenera Activa is an autologous regenerative treatment used to manage hair loss and selected forms of alopecia in both men and women. This therapy is designed to address follicular dysfunction by enhancing the biological environment of the scalp and supporting long-term hair follicle viability.

Regenera Activa is beneficial in non-scarring alopecias such as androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern hair loss), as well as selected autoimmune-related conditions including Alopecia Areata, Alopecia Barbae, and Alopecia Totalis, where follicles remain structurally intact. By supporting the anagen (active growth) phase of the hair cycle and reducing follicular miniaturisation, treatment aims to decrease hair shedding, strengthen existing hair, and improve overall hair density over time.

As a minimally invasive, autologous procedure, Regenera Activa offers a favourable safety profile with minimal downtime. Treatment suitability and protocols are determined following thorough clinical assessment to optimise outcomes.

FACE

Regenera Activa is used to address common facial skin concerns, including skin laxity, uneven skin tone, fine lines, and overall loss of skin vitality. Rather than masking signs of ageing, this treatment works by stimulating the skin’s intrinsic repair and renewal mechanisms.

Regenera Activa facial treatment helps smooth fine lines, improve skin tone and quality, and restore a more refreshed, plumped, and youthful appearance. Results develop gradually and naturally, with minimal downtime. Treatment plans are individualised following clinical assessment and may be used alone or in combination with other facial rejuvenation therapies to optimise outcomes.

WOUND HEALING / SCARS

Due to its regenerative properties, processed autologous skin tissue can be used to support wound healing and improve the appearance of scars. Regenera Activa treatment delivers a concentrated source of growth factors and regenerative cellular components to the affected area, helping to activate and accelerate the body’s natural repair processes.

This regenerative response promotes collagen synthesis, enhances microcirculation, and supports tissue remodelling, which can improve wound closure, strengthen compromised skin, and soften the appearance of established scars. Treatment may be beneficial for a range of concerns, including acne scarring, burn scars, post-traumatic or surgical scars, diabetic wounds and ulcers, and scarring resulting from cuts or injuries.

As a minimally invasive, autologous procedure, this treatment offers a favourable safety profile and can be tailored following clinical assessment to support optimal healing and skin restoration outcomes.

Regenera Activa FAQ’s

Does it hurt?
Before the tissue biopsy is taken, local anaesthetic is applied to the nape of the neck. It may be slightly uncomfortable but not unbearable.

How many treatments and how often is this therapy needed?
Regenera is a one-time treatment and this continues to boost hair growth for over 2 years in some cases. As there is no permanent solution for androgenetic hair loss as of yet, it is impossible to claim that Regenera will last forever, however, it is long lasting.

What results can I expect from Regenera Activa?
As the natural process of reactivation takes place and hair begins to grow, results become visible about 30 days after a single session. However, overall effectiveness may vary from one individual to another, as it depends on the regenerative capacity of the body and also on how far the condition had progressed to begin with. Significant results are usually seen 6 month post treatment.

Are there possible side effects with Regenera Activa?
This treatment uses only your own tissue/cells - it is not possible to be allergic to it or come across issues such as rejection. It is important to ensure the puncture site (at nape of the neck) is treated like a regular wound and kept clean to avoid any chances of infection.

How long do results last?
A single session of Regenera continues to boost hair growth for over 2 years in some cases. While the procedure gets hair regeneration activated to begin with, it is important to support and promote the progressive growth of healthy hair in terms of coverage and strength. For optimum results, we need to maintain hair health with our bespoke services like PRP and/or Mesotherapy. Each case is very unique - using specialist diagnostic tools, we can tailor treatments to suit your specific hair loss pattern.
