ABOUT CELLULITE
Cellulite can affect both men and women of all shapes and sizes and is most likely to appear around the hip, buttocks, stomach and thighs. Some people also experience it on the arms, back, breasts and neck. Cellulite is a term used to describe the dimpled appearance of skin cause by a layer of fat beneath the skin that pushes against connective tissue, causing the skin to crease around it.
Cellulite usually appears after puberty, for a wide variety of reasons. Hormones play an important role - as oestrogen actually breaks down collagen fibres, which are responsible for keeping your skin looking plump and youthful. Without as many collagen fibres to keep them in place, fat cells begin to move towards the surface of the skin, which then forms the orange skin appearance. The effect can be worsened by having a higher percentage of body fat, smoking, or having a poor diet.
